Michael Alexander is a Senior Litigation Lawyer at Achkar Law with a strong litigation background across constitutional law, administrative law, insurance law, libel and defamation law, and employment law. He represents individuals and organizations in complex legal matters and has appeared before tribunals, commissions, trial and appellate courts, and the Supreme Court of Canada.
Trained in both Canada and the United States, Michael has built a career that includes litigation roles at Bay Street firms, serving as in-house counsel for a venture capital company, and advising the Government of Ontario on labour and employment matters. His broad perspective and legal insight help clients navigate high-stakes disputes with confidence.
One of Michael’s most notable cases involved a six-year legal battle against State Farm U.S. over a fire insurance policy dispute. Representing himself, he took the case from trial all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada, where he secured a unanimous decision that influenced the insurance industry and protected Canadian consumers from major premium increases.
Michael holds law degrees from the University of Toronto and Columbia University and completed graduate studies in political science and philosophy. He also studied at the University of Chicago as a Laidlaw Fellow.
Outside of his legal practice, Michael is a best-selling author, public speaker, and frequent media contributor.
