Scott Simser

Senior Employment Litigation Lawyer

Scott Simser is a Senior Employment Litigation Lawyer at Achkar Law who advises and represents clients across the full range of workplace and labour matters. His employment litigation practice covers terminations, severance and executive severance, employment contracts and independent contractor agreements, human rights, workplace harassment and discrimination, workplace investigations and policies, and labour and employment compliance. He also acts on judicial review and appeals.

Scott earned his Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School, and he also holds an MBA from York University and a Bachelor of Administration from the University of Ottawa. He was called to the Ontario bar and is a member of the Law Society of Ontario.

Scott’s reported decisions reflect significant appellate experience. He acted as counsel in Canadian Association of the Deaf v. Canada (2006), 272 DLR (4th) 55, a human rights decision since cited by several leading Federal Court cases, and in Re Ross (2003), 50 CBR (4th) 274, a bankruptcy matter cited with approval twice by the Supreme Court of Canada.

Outside the office, Scott volunteers extensively with non-profit organizations that serve persons with disabilities. He enjoys travelling, especially in Europe, and spends his summers swimming in freshwater lakes and his winters cross-country skiing.
