Gareth D’Costa is a Senior Associate at Achkar Law. His practice focuses on employment law, human rights discrimination, and corporate and commercial litigation. He represents both individuals and organizations, helping clients resolve legal issues with a practical, solutions-oriented approach.
Gareth began his legal career at the Ministry of Finance – Legal Services Branch, where he advised Ontario’s Financial Services Policy Division. His work included regulatory and oversight matters involving Crown Agencies such as the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC), the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO), and the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA). He also acted as Counsel to the Ontario Financing Authority’s (OFA) Corporate Finance Division, advising on provincial lending and private sector procurement. Working closely with the Office responsible for the Spring Budget and Fall Economic Statement, Gareth developed a diverse skill set at the intersection of law, policy, and economics—experience that continues to benefit his clients.
Before joining Achkar Law, Gareth practiced full-service civil litigation. He represented clients in matters involving residential and commercial agreements of purchase and sale, oppression remedies, tax appeals, expropriation, and administrative law. He regularly appeared before the Small Claims Court, Superior Court of Justice, and various provincial tribunals to help secure favourable outcomes.
Gareth holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law, where he volunteered with Downtown Legal Services and Law Help Ontario, supporting access to justice and community legal work.
Outside of the office, Gareth enjoys cooking, dancing, and spending time with his dog, Rosie.
